The Results—and Signs—of Trust

On many occasions I have written about the importance of trust. With it, we can find Real Love and transform our lives. Without it, we stay stuck and isolated, with little to no possibility of learning and growing.

Now, what happens when you DO trust? Recently a woman wrote me to rejoice that she HAD found trust in her life, and she described how it felt—she described the RESULTS of trusting.  As it turns out, the feelings resulting from trust are also the SIGNS of trust, signs you can use to recognize whether you're trusting. So these conditions associated with trust could be very instructive for us when evaluating whether we’re trusting. The woman who wrote me stated that when she was trusting, she felt:

Safe. When we trust, we no longer fear every little thing. We trust in the power of love and guidance—sometimes from another person, sometimes from a higher power. Safety is a natural result of being surrounded by this power.

Warm

Relaxed. When we trust, we’re not alone. No matter what happens, we have the comforting connection with whoever we trust. It’s relaxing.

Understood. Trusting someone allows them to truly connect to you and understand you. Feeling understood is very fulfilling.

Cared for. Until you trust someone to love you, you’ll never feel loved. Without trust, love just rolls off you onto the ground.

Accepted

Loved

Happy

Relief. Not trusting creates a perpetual condition of fear and tension. Trusting evaporates all that, which creates an enormous sense of relief.

Free. This might be the best result/sign of trust. With trust, you are freed from fear, defending yourself, working to please other people, despair, guilt, and pain. Throwing off all that burden feels pretty great.

Able. Trusting the help of others makes you feel capable of doing so much more than you could do alone.

Powerful, even great, not just okay or in less pain

Calmer

Tender. Once you know what it’s like to trust, you develop a huge compassion for those who can’t, for those who suffer the burdens described earlier.

Confident. Trusting in other people and in powers greater than yourself, you feel a confidence otherwise impossible.

Emotionally sensitive, touched

Peaceful

“I have wings now.” Nice summary.

As you choose to trust, these are the conditions you have to look forward to. After you have chosen to trust, these are also the conditions that confirm you’ve made the right choice.
