What’s Time to a Pig?

Real Love is the most powerful force in the universe for positive transformation of the human soul. Over and over I have watched people as their lives have been revolutionized by unconditional love. Commonly I am asked how long it takes for this to occur, so here I offer a story that may illustrate the answer.

A man was walking on a country road when he stopped to watch a strange sight. A farmer was lifting a pig up in his arms, to allow the pig to eat the low-lying fruit on an apple tree.

"What are you doing?" the man asked.

"Feeding my pig," the farmer answered.

The visitor was puzzled. "But doesn't it take an awful lot of time to do it that way?"

The farmer shrugged and said, "What's time to a pig?"

We laugh at the farmer's foolishness, but most of us spend our entire lives holding pigs in the air. In order to find the happiness we desire, we lie, manipulate, get angry, and more—all enormously exhausting and time-consuming efforts.

So when people ask me how long it takes to experience of Real Love, I ask, "How long do you want it to take?" If we're willing to dive into the process of telling the truth and finding Real Love, we'll discover that the fruit that nourishes our souls is lying all around us. We don't have to hold pigs in the air.
