I have a dear friend, Eileen, who tutors young children in a number of school subjects. She teaches a boy, Jonathan, who is presently getting chemotherapy for some kind of cancer. She asked him what it’s like when he’s getting the chemo.
“It’s like an earthquake in my body,” Jonathan said.
He added that the feeling was not pleasant, so Eileen asked what he does when he feels like that.
“I hold the sky,” he said.
On many occasions I have stated that love is not just a feeling or a choice. It’s literally a power, the power, in fact, that unites and energizes the entire universe. What I’m saying is not metaphorical or mystical. Quantum physics has demonstrated that everything is connected. Everything. Everywhere, throughout the universe. And that connecting power is love. No kidding.
When we are living in love—feeling it, sharing it—we are in the flow of the universe. We are living in a way that is congruent with the power that unites everything, so we become unspeakably powerful ourselves. We become PART of that power. It flows through us, and we flow in it. THAT is what Jonathan was saying—Eileen confirms—when he said that he “holds the sky” when he’s in pain. He reaches out for the healing and comforting power of love, even though he couldn’t initially put words to it.
Hold the sky. Don’t let go. If you stay in that flow, you will feel more alive than you can imagine, you will discover who you really are and what you are here to do, and you will be happy. It’s a guarantee.
